Happy Friday,
How was your week?
Mine was action-packed. On Monday, I got to experience the joy of my Torontian colleagues' new office opening, participated in the kickoff of the Women LEAD program on Wednesday, and did a panel with UQAM (my old turf) future grads on Thursday. Is it Friday yet?
Building a brand requires a deep understanding of what your consumers want and love about it, which is paramount for product innovation and brand extensions. Still, it can also be a fabulous bank of ideas to have fun with their consumers on my youngest favourite day of the year, April Fool's Day. (she’s been practicing her surprise prank for weeks now…)
So this week, I thought of sharing some of these brand pranks that got us chuckling. But first, here are the brand rules of the game;
- Stay on brand | It won't be believable if you don't
- Keep it fun | and don't make fun of someone. If not, the joke will be on you
- Make it believable | Anchor it in likings of your core consumers
- Have fun | time to showcase your brand personality
Leaving everyone to ponder for a second if this is for real
Now it is time to have fun; the food category is a fantastic territory to start;
- Kraft retiring their bears Crunchy & Smoothie caused riots for a minute
- Tropicana all pulp orange juice,
- Welch's Ranch flavour snack with Ranchfuls
- or Hendrick's cucumber milk, (hard pass for me)
Restaurant chains have also been joining the fun for years
- Little Caesar Corn Cub Crust was a good one.
- Burger King's Whopper toothpaste inventive
- Pizza Hut pizza perfume is still one of my favs
- Or Whittle Castle (love their sliders) protein powder
And many others like:
- Google has been joining in for years, The tulip or Feeling Lucky ones were memorable.
- WestJet's Introducing its #FurryFamily program
- Or Audi's new autonomous chair or new Bacon Dryer Sheets from Smithfield? uhh yes, please
- What about Tinder banning fish pics for good? (iykyk)
7-eleven just announced its new Hotdog Sparkling water,
but we will know for sure next week if it's real (fingers crossed )
What a wonderful tradition, and I can't wait to see this year's crop or my daughter’s prank.
Until then
See you next week
