Happy Friday,
How was your week?
Mine was fabulous, working from a chalet with my Lola enjoying her spring break. The best.
Today is International Women's Day, celebrating women's advancement in society.
In 2018, I attended a workshop organized by Google, Women Will. I learned about labour participation for women (10 pt lower than men), pay gap (26% in Canada), corporate talent pipeline, and our unconscious bias on gender career gap (take the test; it shocked me).
Since then, the program has transformed into I'm Remarkable, and other programs have been created to promote women in leadership roles.
This year, I raised my hand to dedicate 20% of my corporate time to leading with Raffy, the mentorship pillar for Women Lead Canada. For the second year, Kristen, Ashley and Kim will lead this program in which close to 40 women will be given a leadership toolkit to increase the pipeline of women ready for leadership positions and overall representation at Google.
Over the years, corporations are doing more and more to close the gender gap, but there is still plenty of work to do to bust myths about women in the workplace. I long for the day when we no longer have to qualify a CEO's gender.(ah if I was a man)
And brands have released some great campaigns to raise awareness;
Raising 3 girls is fun. A weekly organized chaos around school, google, girl guides meetings and a million other things. While trying to give them the confidence to be who they are.
But I will have to wait for their daughters to have daughters, to have equal pay and no longer have to celebrate being the first but the one of many.
Until then
See you next week.
